KOCHI: Parents of Alin, the youngest organ donor, have rejected offers worth crores from private companies that wanted to use their daughter’s name as a brand. Instead, they allowed the government-run Supplyco to use her image and name on notebooks without accepting even a single rupee. Alin’s parents, Sherin Ann John and Arun Abraham, revealed this during the launch of the “Alin” branded notebooks held at the Ernakulam Guest House.

Arun Abraham said that their lives have been emotionally difficult since February 5. “Many companies came forward offering crores to use our daughter’s name as a brand. We rejected all of them. When Supplyco approached us, we did not think twice. We decided to stand with the government,” he said.

The family believes that becoming an official government-backed brand will help spread awareness in society about organ donation.

Minister Anoop Jacob, who launched the notebooks, said Alin’s life story would help remove misconceptions about organ donation. He added that Supplyco took up the initiative not for business profit, but as part of a social commitment.

The event was chaired by T J Vinod. Hibi Eden and Mayor V K Minimol attended as chief guests. Alin’s parents were honoured during the function. Students and teachers of Sacred Heart College, Thevara, were also appreciated for designing the logo and notebook covers as part of Supplyco’s marketing initiative.

Five notebook series for children
The price of the Alin notebooks ranges from Rs 14.50 to Rs 37. The notebooks have been released as a five-book series designed for small children. Each series includes children’s stories that continue across the other four books.
