THRISSUR: A council meeting of the Thrissur Corporation descended into chaos after ruling and opposition members clashed over the alleged failure to obtain permission for a school sports meet where four students were injured. The uproar began when the opposition raised the issue at the start of the meeting. Sheets installed above the venue of the sports meet had reportedly been blown away, injuring around four students.

BJP and Left-wing council members subsequently gathered in front of the Mayor's seat and raised slogans. The protest later escalated into a physical altercation. The CPI(M) alleged that the Corporation's permission had not been obtained to conduct the sports meet.

Meanwhile, Thrissur Deputy Mayor A. Prasad had criticised the state General Education Department over lapses in the conduct of the State School Sports and Games Meet. He said the Corporation had not been consulted on any aspect of the event and that the Mayor and Deputy Mayor were informed about the inauguration only on the eve of the event.
