THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: BJP national executive member P K Krishnadas said that former DGP R Sreelakha is a treasure for the BJP. He added that Sreelakha did not join the BJP seeking any position. Krishnadas said he came to know about her resignation as a Thiruvananthapuram Corporation councillor through the media.

“We believe she will remain in the leadership to strengthen the party. We do not think her resignation is part of any pressure tactic. She was ready to contest as a BJP candidate following the requests and pressure from the party leaders. Sreelakha is a person who has upheld her values throughout her official career,” he said.

Krishnadas said the political situation in Kerala is currently favourable to the BJP. He also claimed that the BJP would continue to rule the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation for the next five years.

Meanwhile, Sreelekha's resignation as a councillor has come as a major setback for the BJP. She reportedly submitted her resignation letter to Thiruvananthapuram Mayor V V Rajesh on September 30. The District Collector will also be informed soon. Her resignation is reportedly linked to her dissatisfaction with the BJP leadership. However, Sreelekha has said that she resigned due to personal reasons. The BJP is now making efforts to persuade her to withdraw the resignation.
