Kozhikode schools, educational institutions shut on Saturday amid heavy rain; professional colleges exempt

KOZHIKODE: The Kozhikode district administration has declared a holiday for educational institutions on Saturday following continued heavy rainfall and waterlogging in hilly, coastal and other parts of the district.

District Collector announced that the holiday applies to all educational institutions except professional colleges. Anganwadis, madrasas and tuition centres will also remain closed. However, examinations scheduled in advance and online classes will be held as planned.

Meanwhile, the India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rainfall is likely to continue across Kerala for the next five days.

A Red Alert has been issued for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod districts for Friday, indicating the possibility of extremely heavy rainfall over a short duration. Residents in these districts have been advised to remain vigilant.

An Orange Alert has also been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Malappuram districts, where isolated places are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

A Yellow Alert has been issued for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad districts.

For Saturday, the IMD has issued a Yellow Alert for 10 districts — Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod — forecasting the possibility of isolated heavy rainfall.
