ALAPPUZHA: Kuttanad MLA Reji Cheriyan has expressed disappointment that neither the Chief Minister nor any other minister has visited the flood-hit Kuttanad, where heavy rain has inundated large areas. He said he tried calling the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister, but neither answered the phone. He added that he expects them to return his call. Reji Cheriyan also criticised the lack of preparedness at the Thottappally Spillway.
"Water has entered almost every house in Kuttanad. As the water level continues to rise, many people are leaving their homes. They are fleeing to places like Thiruvalla without even being able to take a change of clothes. I called the Chief Minister and the Revenue Minister this morning, but they did not answer. I hope they will call back," he said.
He also said that waste has piled up at the Thottappally Spillway, affecting the flow of water. Removing the waste from the road would disrupt traffic. Authorities are planning to bring a barge to clear the accumulated waste, he added.
