Heavy rain to continue in Kerala for five more days; Red alert issued in four fistricts

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast that rain will continue across Kerala for the next five days, with a red alert issued for four northern districts on Friday due to the likelihood of extremely heavy rainfall.

The red alert has been declared for Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. Authorities have advised residents in these districts to remain vigilant as intense rainfall capable of causing significant accumulation within a short period is expected.

An orange alert has been issued for Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Malappuram, where isolated places are likely to receive very heavy rainfall.

Meanwhile, a yellow alert is in place for Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad, indicating the possibility of isolated heavy rain.

For Saturday (August 8), the IMD has issued a yellow alert for Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod, forecasting isolated heavy rainfall.

According to the IMD, heavy rainfall refers to precipitation ranging between 64.5 mm and 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.

Red alert: Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod;

Orange alert: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki and Malappuram;

Yellow alert: Thiruvananthapuram, Kollam, Alappuzha, Ernakulam, Thrissur and Palakkad.

August 8:

Yellow alert: Pathanamthitta, Alappuzha, Kottayam, Ernakulam, Idukki, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod.
