LUCKNOW: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) has questioned Champat Rai, the former general secretary of the trust and VHP vice-president in the Ayodhya Shri Ram temple fund fraud case. The SIT said that Champat Rai remained silent despite being informed about the donation irregularities. Bundles of currency notes were found in the toilet of the counting room on June 4. A bag full of money was also found in the house of the counting room employee. The investigation team has found that Champat Rai did not respond in all these cases.

Eight including Champat Rai's close aide Tinu Yadav, have been arrested so far in the donation fraud case. Champat Rai's driver Tinu Yadav was given the charge of the room where the notes of the offering boxes are counted. Jewellery worth crores of rupees were also recovered from his house.

The SIT will question Champat Rai again to get more information. Most probably he will be arrested soon. Champat Rai, who presently lives in Ayodhya is likely to move to Delhi. The SIT had inspected the houses of all eight accused in the case the other day.

Meantime, the investigation team’s move is to include Sangh Parivar leaders in the investigation in the temple theft. The opposition has stepped forward with criticism for not questioning the Sangh Parivar leaders. It was found that there was a fraud of Rs 200 crore in connection with the Ayodhya temple. The SIT aims to seize all the documents related to this.
