THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A clash broke out between BJP and UDF members at the Thiruvananthapuram Corporation after the council meeting ended. UDF councillors alleged that BJP members snatched the attendance register while they were signing it and attempted to tear the document.
Congress councillors alleged that BJP members passed the agenda amid protests and left the meeting, calling the move unacceptable.
Speaking to the media, UDF councillor K. S. Sabarinadhan alleged that BJP councillor Chempazhanthy Udayan physically assaulted UDF members, including women councillors. However, BJP alleged that Udayan's shirt was torn by UDF councillors during the clash.
The council meeting ended within five minutes amid protests. The LDF and UDF had been protesting from the beginning, demanding the resignation of BJP councillor R. Sugathan, who is an accused in a KAAPA case. The protests intensified after Mayor V. V. Rajesh took his seat. Opposition members entered the centre of the hall and raised slogans. As the situation turned chaotic, the mayor quickly completed the proceedings and ended the meeting.
The clash began when UDF members tried to sign the attendance register and BJP councillors stopped them. The situation escalated into a major confrontation. During the incident, leaders from both sides reportedly climbed onto the dais and engaged in a heated argument.
