THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The government's aim is to make Kerala the first non-BJP state to accept the amendment to appoint non-Muslims in the Waqf Board, said opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan. He also alleged in a press conference that Chief Minister V D Satheesan is saying things that are far from the truth.

‘The chief minister is saying things that are against the facts to deliberately mislead. When I informed my stand on the Waqf Board issue, they said that I was spreading communalism. It should be clarified on what basis I said that. It was the BJP's central government that brought the amendment to the law to appoint non-Muslims in the Waqf Board.

The UDF government is trying to make Kerala the first non-BJP state to accept this amendment. They clarified their stand in the high court by accepting the amendment brought by the central government. This is clear Sangh Parivar service. It was only when that was exposed that they made the remarks about me.

Although the Waqf Act was amended earlier, it did not include non-Muslims. Only their own people are on the boards of each religious sect. The amendment to the Waqf Act was brought after the BJP government came to power. The interest behind it is clear. Is expressing disagreement with this spreading communalism? Is it right for a congress chief minister to accept the BJP's stand? asked Pinarayi Vijayan.
