Gruesome murder committed for two gold nose pins; Two including minor arrested in Palakkad

PALAKKAD: Two were arrested in Kozhinjampara in the murder of an elderly woman. Sarasammal (66), a native of Attayampathy, was killed during an attempted robbery. The accused, Udayakumar and a 17-year-old, were taken into custody from Tamil Nadu. Udayakumar is Sarasammal's neighbour. He was taken to the spot, and evidence was collected.

The accused invited Sarasammal, who was passing by on the road, to their house on the pretext of showing her a saree. The duo later killed her. The police said that the accused said that the murder was committed to steal two of her golden nose pins.

Sarasammal had been missing since June 10. Then, on June 12, her daughter filed a complaint with the police. While the investigation was underway, the police, who became suspicious, approached the youngsters. The following investigation brought out the gruesome murder angle. After hitting her on the head with an iron rod, they set fire to her body and stuffed it in a drum in the bathroom. Later, the half-dismembered body was put in a sack and then buried.
