KANNUR: Four people were killed in a fatal road accident on the Koodali-Kumbham road in Kannur on Friday midnight. The victims are Param Chhetri, Harsh, Rizwan and Shan. One of the seriously injured in the accident is undergoing treatment at a private hospital in Kannur.

Shan, son of Moideen, native of Alavil Colony in Kannur, was on his way from Bengaluru with his friends to attend a relative's wedding. The wedding celebrations are scheduled for today and tomorrow. The sight of new clothes, meant for the wedding, scattered at the accident site left many shattered. Shan and his friends had joined various companies in Bengaluru two months ago after completing their studies.

The accident occurred at around 11:30 pm. The car crashed into a tree on the side of the road. The impact of the crash ripped off the bark of the huge tree. The locals were the first to carry out the rescue operation. Mattanur police and fire force reached the spot. The five people inside the car were brought out by cutting open the car. Although they were immediately taken to the hospital, the lives of the four could not be saved.

It is believed that the driver may have fallen asleep at the wheel. Accidents are an everyday occurrence on the Kudali-Kumbham road due to its many curves. Although the locals have repeatedly requested steps to prevent accidents, no action has been taken so far.
