Accident during patrolling in Kanhangad: Two on-duty police officers' legs amputated

KASARAGOD: Two policemen, seriously injured in a car accident while patrolling the Kanhangad highway, had their legs amputated today. The legs of Civil Police Officers Suraj (32) and Aloysius (39) were amputated surgically at the Tejasvini Hospital in Mangaluru. One official had his leg amputated below the knee, and the other had to have his foot amputated.

Last Thursday, during a vehicle inspection, a speeding car lost control and ran into a patrol team. The car hit the policemen who were standing behind the jeep. The injured policemen were caught between the two vehicles. They were immediately admitted to a private hospital in Kanhangad, but were shifted to Mangaluru due to their serious injuries. Suraj, who was involved in the accident, is also a former football player in the police club.

On learning about the accident, State Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and Thrikaripur MLA Sandeep Varier inquired about the health condition of both and assured to provide all necessary help.
