KANNUR: The police ruled out any mystery in the discovery of a body wrapped in a mat at the Infant Jesus Church in Vaniyappara, Iritty. The confusion was caused by the change in the grave numbers as part of the cemetery renovation. The problem was resolved when relatives identified the body buried in the mat.

Bodies were buried in this grave in 2006 and 2015. The police received pictures of a body buried with a mat in 2015. The body was buried in this way after the postmortem. Seven days ago, when grave number 38 was opened as per the rotation, the body was found wrapped in a mat. According to Christian customs, a body will not be buried wrapped in a mat. This led to the confusion.

The death register kept in the church was checked, but the identity of the body found wrapped in a mat was not identified. The ambiguity was cleared when the relatives arrived. The body of the person who died after vomiting blood in 2015 was buried in a grave with a mat after a postmortem.
