THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Special Investigation Team (SIT) searched the ADGP's office in the case of assaulting Youth Congress workers in Alappuzha during the Nava Kerala Yatra. The SIT collected the visitor's register, CCTV clippings of the office and the records from the police club were examined.
The previous investigation team had given a statement that the documents related to the case were corrected at the ADGP’s office. Based on this, the team led by DySP Baiju Paulose searched the ADGP office. This is the first time the ADGP office is being searched as part of the investigation. M R Ajith Kumar was the ADGP when the incident happened.
Meantime, the high court has sought an explanation from the accused on government's appeal to cancel the anticipatory bail of the five policemen accused in the case. The court has directed to give a reply before June 27. The SIT has demanded that the bail granted to the five accused, including Pinarayi Vijayan's gunmen Anil Kalliyur and Sandeep, be cancelled.
Alappuzha Principal Sessions Judge Honey M Varghese granted anticipatory bail to the accused after observing that the lathi used to assault the Youth Congress workers was found. However, the SIT claimed that this observation is wrong and granting anticipatory bail at a stage when the investigation is ongoing will affect the case.
