KOLKATA: In a significant setback to the Trinamool Congress (TMC) and former West Bengal Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee, the party's state president Chandrima Bhattacharya has resigned from her post. Bhattacharya submitted her resignation letter to the party leadership, clarifying that she is stepping down from all organizational responsibilities.
Widely regarded as a close confidante of Mamata Banerjee, Chandrima Bhattacharya was appointed to the top state position just last month. She had replaced veteran leader Subrata Bakshi as part of a restructuring strategy aimed at revamping the party, which had suffered an internal split following its defeat in the recent Assembly elections.
Her abrupt resignation comes at a time when the Trinamool Congress leadership is facing intense criticism. The party has been grappling with a continuous exodus of leaders, triggering widespread allegations from various quarters that the management's inefficiency has failed to keep the organisation intact.
Bhattacharya has not yet specified the exact reason behind her decision to step down. The party leadership is yet to issue an official statement regarding the acceptance of her resignation or outline the next steps for the state unit's leadership.
