Heavy rainfall to continue in northern districts: Yellow alert in Ernakulam

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The Indian Meteorological Department warned of widespread rain in the state today. A yellow alert was issued in 11 districts today, including in Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Idukki, Ernakulam, Thrissur, Palakkad, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Wayanad, Kannur and Kasaragod. A yellow alert will remain in Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts tomorrow. These districts are likely to receive 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm of rain in 24 hours. In addition to isolated heavy rain, there is a possibility of thunderstorms.

An orange alert was issued for Kannur and Kasaragod districts on July 6th and for Kozhikode, Kannur and Kasaragod districts on Tuesday (July 7). The districts under orange alert are likely to experience heavy rainfall in isolated places. The Meteorological Department also advised those living in areas prone to landslides, mudslides and flash floods to move to safer places as per the instructions of the authorities.
