Relief for Waqf Board: Supreme Court sets aside part of High Court order

NEW DELHI: In a relief to the State Waqf Board, the Supreme Court has quashed the final part of the Kerala High Court's interim order. As a result, the appointment of the State's Joint Secretary dealing with waqf matters as the Board's administrator has been set aside. The Supreme Court was hearing a petition filed by the Waqf Board challenging the High Court's interim order, which had temporarily frozen the Board's functioning. The case was heard by a Bench headed by the Chief Justice. BJP leader Shaun George was among those who filed intervention petitions in the case.

Meanwhile, the Waqf Board's judicial meeting began in Kozhikode even as the High Court's interim order remains in force. The Waqf Board Chairman said there was no restriction on convening the meeting. He clarified that the High Court's order only barred the implementation of policy decisions and did not prevent the Board from holding its meetings.
