'Forgive me father, I could not succeed despite trying several times'; youth commits suicide after failing to secure govt job

LUCKNOW: In a tragic incident, a 23-year-old BTech graduate died by suicide in Kanpur, Uttar Pradesh, after becoming distressed over repeated failures to secure a government job. The deceased has been identified as Anand Kumar. He was found hanging in his room. Police recovered a suicide note that read: "Forgive me, father. I tried to secure a government job more than 50 times. Yet, I could not succeed. Forgive me."

The incident took place while Anand's family was in their native village in Bihar to discuss the marriage of his elder brother. It was a domestic helper who informed the police, as Anand did not answer despite knocking on the door several times. Soon, the police arrived at the house and found Anand hanging in his room.

Anand completed his BTech from Pranveer Singh Institute of Technology in Kanpur in 2024. He graduated as the top-ranked student at the institute. Uttar Pradesh Governor Anandiben Patel presented him with a gold medal after he secured third rank at the state level.

His father Rajkumar said that after completing a one-year apprenticeship at Power Grid, Anand had been working hard for the last few months to secure a government job. Although he attempted various competitive exams conducted by the Railways, SSC, Banks and Education Department, he was not able to secure a job. His family said the repeated setbacks caused him severe mental stress.
