NEW DELHI: Cockroach Janta Party (CJP) founder Abhijeet Dipke announced an indefinite hunger strike after social activist Sonam Wangchuk was admitted to the hospital due to his deteriorating health. Wangchuk and CJP are on a hunger strike demanding the resignation of Prime Minister Narendra Modi and Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan in the wake of irregularities in examinations including NEET and question paper leaks in the country.
Sonam Wangchuk, who had been on a hunger strike at Jantar Mandir in Delhi for more than 20 days, was shifted to Safdarjung Hospital by the Delhi Police after his health condition deteriorated. The authorities said that he was arrested and shifted to the hospital on the orders of the Delhi High Court.
Abhijeet Dipke replaced Wangchuk following protests after Wangchuk was shifted to the hospital. He said the government was taking repressive measures against those who protested peacefully. Dipke said that democratic protests cannot be stopped by force and that the strike will continue.
The protesters are demanding a comprehensive change in the NEET examination system and full accountability of the government. Meanwhile, Wanghchuk’s wife Geetanjali J Angmo came against his arrest and hospitalisation. She has asked the hospital authorities not to start treatment without his consent.
Hospital authorities have informed that there is no cause for concern regarding Wangchuk's health and that continuous monitoring will continue.
