'Will raise matter in Parliament'; Police release Rahul Gandhi after brief detention

NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Opposition Leader Rahul Gandhi was released by police after keeping the leader in detention for three hours at Chhatrasal Stadium. Along with Rahul, a bevvy of Congress leaders were also released. Rahul, who appeared in front of the media, said he would raise the matter for discussion in parliament.

The leader of opposition in the parliament was arrested for protesting in front of the Prime Minister’s official residence in the national capital on Tuesday. Congress leaders en masse joined the protest, expressing solidarity with CJP and youngsters of the country against the NEET question paper leak. Along with the LoP, Priyanka Gandhi, Congress President Mallikarjun Kharge, MPs Shafi Parambil and KC Venugopal were arrested and removed from the protest venue by the police.

Tension prevailed during the Congress march to Lok Kalyan Marg, where the Prime Minister's residence is located. Prominent leaders from Kerala, including Chief Minister V.D. Satheesan and Karnataka Chief Minister D.K. Shivakumar, participated in the protest. Rahul Gandhi is leading the protest march.

Dean Kuriakose MP and PC Vishnunath MLA were taken into custody by the police. Dean was assaulted by the police and dragged along the road. As the protests intensified, Union Minister Jitendra Singh held direct talks with Rahul Gandhi and tried to persuade him. The Congress made it clear that they would not back down from the protests until there was a proper discussion with the government.
