NEW DELHI: The Indian cricket team is currently placed sixth in the ongoing World Test Championship (WTC) cycle. With four wins, four losses, and one draw from nine matches, India have secured 52 points. The team now faces a challenging road ahead if it wants to lift the Test Championship trophy. The retirement of senior players such as Rohit Sharma, Virat Kohli, and Ravichandran Ashwin has left a significant gap in the Indian Test squad. Following Kohli’s decision to step away from Test cricket, several fans had been hoping that the former captain would make a comeback to the longest format.
However, Virat Kohli has now put an end to all speculation regarding his return. The star batter made it clear that his Test career is over, saying, “I am done with Test cricket.” Kohli made the statement while speaking at the launch event of his sportswear brand One8 in Delhi. He is the co-founder of the brand.
During the event, host and comedian Danish Sait pointed out that a pair of One8 shoes was priced at Rs 9,230, which matched Kohli's total Test runs. He then asked Kohli about it, leading to the former captain’s response about his Test career.
Kohli announced his retirement from Test cricket in May last year, bringing an end to a remarkable 14-year career in the format. As a batter and captain, he played a key role in several of India’s memorable Test performances. The former India skipper scored 9,230 runs in 123 Test matches and 210 innings, including 30 centuries and 31 half-centuries. He remains India’s fourth-highest run scorer in Test cricket, behind Sachin Tendulkar (15,921 runs), Rahul Dravid (13,265 runs), and Sunil Gavaskar (10,122 runs).
