THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The congress has come to the fore with the claim that the votes of the NSS are for Shashi Tharoor, the UDF candidate of Thiruvananthapuram. A senior leader of the congress said they have got the assurance on it from the NSS. Tharoor is facing a formidable challenge from NDA’s Kummanam Rajasekharan. There is a tight race between the three contestants in the capital city. In between this, the congress raised the claim of the support of the NSS.
It is heard that NSS karayogams and vanitha samajams have obtained a directive on it from Perunna. The congress stated that the NSS leadership has given directions to 5600 karayogams to take a favourable approach towards the congress.
As per the 2011 census, Hindus constitute 66.46 percent of the total population of Thiruvananthapuram, Christians 19.1 percent and Muslims 13.72 percent.
