Family’s suicide attempt: Man dies after wife and daughter; son remains critical

KOTTAYAM: A man, who was undergoing treatment after an alleged suicide attempt involving his family, has died. The dead has been identified as Thomas Abraham (50) of Chirappurath, Lakkattoor, Ayarkunnam in Kottayam. He died early Monday morning. Thomas' wife Josna (40) and their 17-year-old daughter Mariya Thomas Theresa died yesterday. Their 12-year-old son, Alan Thomas, remains in a critical condition.

The incident occurred on July 13. Josna and the children consumed herbicide mixed in juice, while Thomas consumed it after mixing in alcohol. The doctors are trying their best to save Alan, who has been on continuous dialysis for 96 hours since he was admitted to the government medical college hospital.

Financial obligations are cited as the reason for taking the drastic step. A police investigation is underway.

Josna was a collection agent at the Kooroppada Service Cooperative Bank, while Maria was a Plus Two student at Mattakkara HSS.
