KOZHIKODE: BJP national secretary K. Surendran has alleged a political deal behind the state government's failure to act against Pinarayi Vijayan in the high-profile 'monthly pay-off' case, despite the Enforcement Directorate writing to the DGP.

Speaking at a press conference, Surendran said the Chief Minister should clarify his position on the matter. He alleged that the government was reluctant to register a case because it feared that an investigation could eventually reach UDF leaders as well.

Surendran alleged that both political fronts had an equal role in the monthly pay-off case. He said he expected the Muslim League and P.K. Kunhalikutty to come forward soon to protect Pinarayi Vijayan.

"There is no need to seek legal advice to register a case. There is also no need to wait for the Home Minister, who is currently away," Surendran said. He alleged that the government was deliberately trying to delay the matter.

Surendran further alleged that cases are often closed or settled when UDF and LDF governments come to power. He cited the Punarjani case against V.D. Satheesan as an example.
