CHENNAI: A girl of class 10 student died by suicide after sexually abused by her teacher. The incident happened in Tamil Nadu’s Kallakurichi. The girl took the drastic step suicide at her home Friday morning. The police have arrested the teacher identified as Jagadesan, accused of sexually abusing her. A case has been registered against him under the Protection of Children from Sexual Offences (POCSO) Act.
Police officials said the investigation had established that the teacher had behaved inappropriately towards the girl. The police said a detailed investigation was underway into the circumstances that led to the girl’s death as well as the allegations against the teacher.
Following the incident, the opposition alleged that the law and order situation in Tamil Nadu was deteriorating, with an increase in murders, violence against women, custodial deaths, and honour killings. Leaders, including Udhayanidhi Stalin, questioned the government’s handling of law and order.
Responding to Udhayanidhi Stalin, Chief Minister Vijay said in the Assembly that not every crime could be treated as a law and order issue. He said the government’s priority was to prevent crimes and bring offenders to justice. He also accused the previous government of failing to curb drug use.
