Three held after car crashes into high-security IOC bottling plant in Parippally

KOLLAM: Police apprehended three individuals after the car they travelled in rammed into a high-security zone at the Parippally IOC bottling plant. The vehicle entered an area where 'bullet' tankers—used for transporting cooking gas—were parked. Although the car collided with the tankers, no gas leakage was reported, averting a major disaster. According to the police, the occupants of the car are residents of Kalaikkode, Paravur. They are currently being interrogated.

The incident took place around 8:30 PM last night. Twenty bullet tankers, which had arrived at the bottling plant carrying cooking gas, were parked in the yard when the car, travelling at high speed, rammed into the tankers. After smashing the gate and other structures, the vehicle crashed into the tankers. Fortunately, the impact did not damage any valves, preventing a gas leak. Security personnel rushed to the scene upon witnessing the reckless, high-speed drive, but they were unable to stop the vehicle. The three individuals were eventually taken into custody when the car came to a halt.

The tankers parked in the yard contained between 15 and 18 tonnes of cooking gas. Consequently, even a gas leak or a minor spark near the tankers could have triggered a major disaster. However, although the tankers sustained minor damage when the car crashed into them, no further complications arose. The car itself was almost destroyed. The police initiated an investigation into the incident and are also examining the possibility of an ulterior motive behind the accident.
