
KOZHIKODE: A Ramanattukara native undergoing treatment has been officially confirmed to have contracted Nipah. The health department released the patient's contact list after the results came back positive from the Pune Virology Institute.
There are 77 people on the contact list, including family members and neighbours. The health department decided to release the patient's route map soon. IRTC teams have been deployed to take immediate action. It was decided to take further action in a meeting held at the Ramanattukara Municipality office. Once the state-level directive comes, the area, including those on the contact list, may be made a containment zone.
The youth was diagnosed with the disease in a preliminary test conducted at the Kozhikode Medical College Hospital lab. He had sought treatment at a private hospital due to illness. After being discharged, he fainted. Since being an alcoholic, he was taken to the de-addiction centre, thinking it was a withdrawal symptom. Later, the patient was admitted to the Kozhikode Medical College with a high fever.
It is reported that he had extensive contact with many people. The youth is currently undergoing treatment at the Kozhikode Medical College. Restrictions have been imposed in the ward area of the hospital and the surrounding areas.
