THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Congress MLA A D Thomas said the assault he faced during the Nava Kerala Yatra ultimately paved the way for him, an ordinary citizen, to speak in the Kerala Assembly. He also urged opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan to introspect on his actions for the past ten years.

‘The opposition leader had the other day come with a bottle of water expressing concern over the use of water cannons towards his party workers. When AIYF activists were injured, a care of parental concern and compassion emerged in him. After ten years, he developed a humane feeling. I welcome that. He should introspect on his actions over the past ten years.

The highest number of police brutality cases occurred in Kerala when the man who raised his voice against state terrorism and police raj became the chief minister. Youngsters were attacked on the streets during his tenure as the chief minister. He glorified those actions as rescue operations.

In the name of expressing opinions, protesting and for waving a black cloth in protest, me and youth congress state secretary were beaten like dogs in the streets of Alappuzha. The chief minister’s gunman struck on our heads. That so-called rescue operation brought me here today,’ said Thomas.
