Pradhan's resignation is 'Victory of Democracy,' Wangchuk urges youth to push for education reforms

NEW DELHI: Social activist Sonam Wangchuk has welcomed the resignation of Union Education Minister Dharmendra Pradhan following protests led by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP), calling it "a victory of democracy" achieved through peaceful public action.

Describing the development as "direct democracy... straight from the streets," Wangchuk said the outcome was a testament to "peace, patience and perseverance." In a post on X, he congratulated the CJP, the country's Gen Z and citizens who, he said, had overcome fear and joined the movement from every corner of the nation.

According to Wangchuk, the students' unwavering commitment to non-violent protest was central to the movement's success. The agitation, he said, demonstrated that disciplined and peaceful public action can still bring about change within a democratic system.

While noting that the Centre had accepted all the demands raised by the CJP, Wangchuk urged protesters not to treat the government's decision as the end of the campaign.

"From accountability, now to reforms," he wrote, calling on young people to remain engaged in pushing for structural changes in the education sector. He said the focus should now shift to addressing long-standing issues through greater transparency and student-centric reforms.
