NEW DELHI: Leader of the Opposition in the Lok Sabha Rahul Gandhi has expressed support for the youth protesting in Delhi, demanding the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. He voiced his support in a video message shared on social media platform X, urging the protesters to continue their agitation.
Rahul said he had been fighting against Prime Minister Narendra Modi and the RSS, the ideological mentor of the BJP, for more than a decade and was well aware of their methods. Referring to Modi, Union Home Minister Amit Shah, Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar and National Security Adviser Ajit Doval, he said the political space around them was gradually shrinking as the Opposition intensified its pressure.
“I have been fighting against Modi and the RSS for more than 10 years. I know them like the back of my hand. The basic nature of these people is cowardice. The political space around Narendra Modi, Amit Shah, Gyanesh Kumar and Ajit Doval is gradually shrinking. We are making it shrink,” Rahul said.
“Modiji, do whatever you want. Deploy the entire police force. Arrest all the leaders and young people. Arrest all of us. I have all the information related to my allegations that the BJP and the Election Commission colluded to ‘steal votes’ during elections.
“We will protect the Indian Constitution and raise the voice of the people. We will not allow the country to witness a repeat of what has happened over the past 10 to 15 years,” he said.
Expressing pride in the country's youth, Rahul urged them to continue their protests and assured them of the Opposition's support.
“I am proud of the youth of India. Continue your protests. We are with you. We will ensure that we defeat the government that attacked the Constitution and those responsible for it,” he added.
