NEW DELHI: Ajinkya Shinde assumed the leadership of the protest organised by the Cockroach Janata Party (CJP) at Jantar Mantar in Delhi. The responsibility of carrying the agitation forward was entrusted to Ajinkya—the party's national organisational leader—after CJP Convener Abhijeet Dipke and co-conveners Saurav Das and Ashutosh Ranka were arrested.
The announcement that Ajinkya would lead the protest was made through a video released by Abhijeet Dipke on social media.
The party stated that Ajinkya Shinde would lead the protest as long as Dipke and two other leaders remain in custody. The Delhi Police had denied permission for the protest, citing concerns regarding law and order and potential inconvenience to the public.
Shinde, a native of Maharashtra, was previously associated with the Aam Aadmi Party's (AAP) social media wing. He also participated in election-related activities in Goa. In the last few years, Shinde got acquainted with Dipke and thus became actively involved in the organisational work of the CJP. Reports indicate that Shinde, who holds a B.Tech degree from Dr Babasaheb Ambedkar Technological University, left a corporate job to become a full-time political activist.
Shinde was one of the brains behind the Jantar Mantar protest held in August this year. Shinde also led the protest held at Shivaji Park in Mumbai on October 2nd, demanding the resignation of Gyanesh Kumar.
Abhijeet Dipke, Ashutosh Ranka, and Saurav Das have been shifted to an undisclosed location by Delhi Police. The CJP stated that the protest would continue even in the absence of the leaders and that they would not back down from the agitation.
