CHENNAI: In a high-stakes political drama, the Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam’s (TVK) bid to assume power has hit a significant roadblock. Despite the party’s readiness to take the oath of office on Saturday—citing the backing of 120 legislators—Lok Bhavan has stalled the process, citing a lack of verified support.

Current Situation:

  • The Numbers Game: According to Lok Bhavan sources, the Governor has only received 116 formal letters of support, falling short of the 118-member threshold required to convince the administration of a stable majority.
  • The Missing Letters: The deadlock appears rooted in the absence of formal endorsements from the VCK and the League. While the VCK’s position remains unclear, the League has reportedly informed authorities that it will not be submitting a letter of support for the TVK-led front.
  • Executive Stance: Lok Bhavan has explicitly stated that the "situation is not yet ripe" to invite Vijay to take the oath, insisting that constitutional formalities regarding the majority must be strictly satisfied first.

With the swearing-in ceremony now in jeopardy, all eyes are on the TVK leadership to see if they can produce the required numbers to satisfy Lok Bhavan’s scrutiny.
