NEW DELHI: Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala has responded to the case against Veena Vijayan, daughter of opposition leader Pinarayi Vijayan. The Enforcement Directorate (ED) is investigating the case. The law will take its own course. Veena’s hawala transactions have not come before the state home department, Chennithala said in Delhi.
He also responded to the issue of DYFI leaders being arrested with drugs. There is no politics in Operation Toofan. Action will be taken whether it is Youth Congress, Youth League or DYFI. This is an effort to save an entire generation. Toofan is the country’s biggest narcotics hunt, said Chennithala.
ED tightens probe
The ED is tightening its investigation against Veena in the monthly-payoff case. The agency will conduct further probe into the SIM card used by Veena. The SIM card is registered in the name of Nandulal, a destination manager with the Kozhikode DTPC. Veena has been using the SIM registered in his name since 2024.
Nandulal reportedly told investigators that the SIM was obtained at the request of Veena and Riyas, but that he did not know the purpose for which it was taken. The ED has stated that the SIM was used for internet calls.
According to the ED, internet calls were used for carrying out unauthorised financial transactions. The agency is also planning to question Veena again.
