THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department forecast heavy rain in the state today. A 'Yellow Alert' was issued for four districts: Pathanamthitta, Kottayam, Ernakulam, and Idukki. 'Heavy rain' is defined as rainfall ranging from 64.5 mm to 115.5 mm within a 24-hour period.
Meanwhile, IMD issued an alert for five districts for the next three hours. The forecast predicted moderate rainfall accompanied by thunderstorms and strong winds reaching speeds of up to 40 km/h in isolated areas of Thiruvananthapuram, Malappuram, Kozhikode, Kannur, and Kasaragod districts. The India Meteorological Department also stated that light rain is likely in isolated areas of the other districts.
The Indian National Centre for Ocean Information Services (INCOIS) warned of potential sea surges along the coast of Thiruvananthapuram district (from Kappil to Pozhiyoor) until 11:30 PM today, with waves expected to reach heights of 0.8 to 1.2 meters due to the 'Kallakkadal' phenomenon. A similar warning has been issued for the Kanyakumari coast, where waves ranging from 0.9 to 1.3 meters in height may cause sea surges until 5:30 PM today.
