THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has warned that widespread rain is likely in the state on Sunday. The warning is in the backdrop of the formation of a cyclonic circulation in the Bay of Bengal and over the coasts of Odisha and Andhra Pradesh. In this situation, yellow alert has been issued in Kannur, Kozhikode and Wayanad today. The rain is intensifying in the state after a short gap. Fishing is banned on the coasts of Kerala and Lakshadweep.

Fishermen and coastal residents have been cautioned as there is a possibility of a rough sea. As the sea is likely to intensify, they should move away from the danger areas as per the instructions of the authorities. Launching small boats and yachts into the sea should be avoided during this time. Bringing fishing vessels back to shore is just as dangerous as launching them into the sea during periods when there is a possibility of the Kallakkadal phenomenon and high waves. So, the IMD has stated that it is necessary to avoid launching oats into the sea and bringing them ashore when the waves are intensifying.
