No relief from power shortage in Kerala; restrictions continue today

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Power restrictions will continue in Kerala today, with restrictions being imposed between 6.45 pm and 12.45 am. Despite the rains, there has been no significant decline in electricity demand in the state. Kerala is currently facing a shortage of around 400 to 500 MW of power.

The situation has worsened as 380 MW of electricity available under a long-term power purchase agreement is no longer available.
The present crisis is also linked to the unavailability of the expected quantity of electricity from the national power market.
Authorities have urged the public to cooperate by minimising electricity consumption during peak hours to help ease the shortage.
