THRISSUR: A migrant worker couple died after being electrocuted by an electric fence installed to keep wild animals away from a poultry farm in Desamangalam. The deceased have been identified as 26-year-old Shefikhul and his wife, Rukhsana, 23, from Nagaon in Assam.

The incident occurred at a poultry farm owned by Ashraf of Pallath House in Irimbassery. The couple had reached the farm from their accommodation that morning to start work when they came into contact with the electrified fence.

The couple had been working at the farm for the past two months. A temporary wire fence had been installed around the premises to prevent wild animals from entering. Electricity had allegedly been illegally supplied to the fence from a KSEB power line. The couple suffered fatal electric shocks after coming into contact with the live wire.

A case of culpable homicide not amounting to murder has been registered against the farm owner. The Electricity Department is also expected to take action.

The bodies have been shifted to the Thrissur Medical College mortuary and will be handed over to their relatives after post-mortem examination. The couple are survived by their two children, Sadiya, 7, and Suhana, 5.
