Film activist Sudheer Chitranjali passes away

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: Film activist Sudheer Chitranjali alias P Sudheer (70) passed away on Thursday. He was battling cancer and died at his residence at 5 am today.
After completing his education in film processing from Adyar Film Institute, Sudheer began his career in film processing at the Merryland Studio in Thiruvananthapuram. He later worked at Chitralekha Studio, headed by filmmaker Adoor Gopalakrishnan. From the time Chitranjali Studio was established, he worked there as lab technician, lab chief and colour consultant.

Starting with black-and-white films and continuing through the advent of digital technology, Sudheer remained associated with Chitranjali Studio until its film laboratory operations were discontinued. He worked on processing of more than 500 films. He retired from service as film officer in 2014.

He won national award for the documentary Mohiniyattam, cinematographed by Santhosh Sivan for Chitranjali, and state awards for best laboratory for the films Danny, Oridam, Sufi Paranja Katha and Bioscope.

He leaves behind his wife, Sajitha and daughter, Sruthi Sudheer and son-in-law, Raji Prasad, a cinematographer.

He will be laid to rest tomorrow (September 4) at 8:30 am at Shanthikavadam in Thycaud.
