'Leaders who supported me are now in power, but there's no justice'; Congress leader slams govt

THRISSUR: Congress activist V S Sujith, who was attacked by the Kunnamkulam police, criticised the UDF government for not taking action against the officers involved. Sujith said that even a year after he fought a legal battle to bring the CCTV footage of the assault into the public domain, he has still not received justice. He demanded that the leaders who are now in power should prove their commitment through action. Sujith expressed his views in an open letter posted on Facebook.

‘After I was attacked by the police, the leaders told me that they were with me. The leaders said that they would fight for justice until the end and remove those who assaulted me from the department. My family and I waited, trusting those promises. A year has passed today. Our government has come to power. Among those who promised to support me, one is now the chief minister, another is the home minister, and another continues to serve as the KPCC president. However, what action has the government taken, asked Sujith.

Sujith said that he does not want political protection but justice, and asked what the leaders have to say to him after keeping him waiting for justice for a year. He also warned that the delay in delivering justice should not become a means of protecting the accused. He has tagged Chief Minister V D Satheesan, Home Minister Ramesh Chennithala and KPCC president Sunny Joseph in the post.

Sujith was subjected to brutal assault inside the Kunnamkulam police station in 2023. It was after a two-year legal battle that the CCTV footage of the incident was brought to light. Although four police officers were suspended, Sujith is demanding that all the officers who attacked him be removed from the department.
