Five months' salary to soon reach account; Big relief for CorroHealth's laid-off employees

THIRUVANANTHAPURAM: A decision was reached to pay the salaries of five more months to the employees laid off from the Kochi and Kozhikode offices of CorroHealth. The agreement was reached during a discussion held at the Secretariat Annex Hall in Thiruvananthapuram under the chairmanship of Labour Minister Bindu Krishna. With this, the employees will receive seven months' salary, including the two months already paid. Minister Bindu Krishna announced that the company will transfer the promised amount before the 26th of this month.

The minister said that the employees who lost their jobs will also be given experience certificates and other documents, including release letters to get jobs elsewhere. Minister Bindu Krishna called the CorroHealth mass layoff move inhumane.

In the meeting, the minister proposed that the closed institutions of CorroHealth be opened and operated and ensure employment for all employees. The minister also assured the company of necessary assistance to open and operate. However, the head of CorroHealth India informed the meeting that the company could not proceed with its operations in Kerala due to technical reasons. Then Minister Bindu Krishna spoke to the representatives of the employees and the trade union representatives, prepared a compromise agreement and informed the company authorities.

The minister said that the company's operations were terminated without prior notice, and it was illegal. At the end of the discussions, the CorroHealth authorities accepted Minister Bindu Krishna's proposal to pay the employees five months' salary and other benefits in addition to the two months currently being paid by the company.

As part of this, a tripartite memorandum of understanding was also prepared. The memorandum of understanding was prepared by including the Additional Labour Commissioner, an official representative of CorroHealth, and a representative of the workers. The employees who lost their jobs expressed satisfaction with the decision taken in the discussions held by Minister Bindu Krishna.
