CHIRAYINKEEZHU: At least 12 people have been hospitalized for suspected food poisoning after eating shawarma and shavayi from the shop ‘Signature Dish’ located near the SRV LP School at Thekkumbhagom in Kadakkavoor. People having food from the hotel on Monday had diarrhea, vomiting, nausea and breathing issues and sought treatment at the Chirayinkeezha Taluk Hospital and in a private hospital in Kadakkavoor.
Girish, Deepa, Haritha Karma Sena members Shubha, Sneha, Sangeeth, Ayantavila natives Priyarani, Ratnamma, Biju, Mani, and six-year-old Dakshina, Anchuthengu Wada natives Girishan (35), Udayakumar (58), Nirupama (51), Greeshma (33), Gauri Nanda (13), Gautham Krishna (7), Mampally natives Christy (11), Leema (35), Kadaikkavoor Oottuparamba natives Shibin (35), wife Minnu (25), Sail (two and a half), Eami (4), and Lali (60) sought treatment.
Many bought food after seeing the combo offer advertisement at the recently opened restaurant. About ten complaints were received at the Kadakkavoor police station over the incident. Based on the complaints received at the Kadakkavoor panchayat and the police, the food safety department visited the hotel and conducted an inspection. The health department closed the hotel after finding that it was operating without sufficient documents. There are hints that the hotel owner has been taken into police custody. The Kadakkavoor and Anchuthengu grama panchayat authorities have informed that further action will be taken.
