Retd sub-inspector arrested for sexually abusing 11-year-old girl in Kannur

KANNUR: A retired sub-inspector was arrested on the complaint of sexually abusing a 11-year-old girl. The Pariyaram police arrested E V Gopinathan (62) of Kappungal in Pariyaram under the POCSO Act. The incident happened Wednesday afternoon.

The girl had gone to play yesterday as the school was closed due to rain. Gopinathan, who was drunk, reached there then and forcibly took her home and abused her. When she went missing, a search was conducted and she was later found in Gopinathan's house.

Meanwhile, a crowd gathered near Gopinathan's house. The police reached the spot on being informed. He was then taken into custody. The girl, who initially did not say anything out of fear, later revealed that she had been raped. He was later arrested under the POCSO Act.
