PUNE: A woman police constable was suspended for allegedly driving under the influence of alcohol while on duty and behaving inappropriately with members of the public. The action was taken after videos of the incident went viral on social media. The suspended officer has been identified as Ashwini Phulchand Kekan. The incident took place on October 27 at Manjari in Pune.
According to the suspension order, the officer lost control of her car while driving under the influence of alcohol. A subsequent medical examination confirmed that she had consumed alcohol. During the suspension period, she will not be allowed to take up any private employment or engage in business activities. She has also been directed not to leave the jurisdiction of the police station without prior permission from the authorities.
An RTI activist had earlier shared videos of the incident on social media, demanding action against the police constable. The footage shows the officer sitting in the driver's seat of her car and arguing with people nearby. She is also seen behaving inappropriately during the exchange.
Lady constables driving under the influence of alcohol. A vehicle without number plates. Who is enforcing the law when those expected to uphold it are breaking it? Has Pune become a city where traffic rules are a joke, the powerful get away with anything, and accountability is DEAD? Pune deserves answers, not excuses. WHO WILL SAVE PUNE? #PuneCarAccident #DrinkAndDrive #PunePolice #RichBrats #RoadSafety #SavePune
