India-Pak warships collide in international waters; Foreign Ministry lodges protest

NEW DELHI: The Ministry of External Affairs (MEA) has informed that ships belonging to the Indian Navy and the Pakistan Navy collided in the international waters. The ministry said in a press release that India summoned the official serving as the Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission and lodged a protest over the incident. Reports say the ships collided on September 15.

‘The Pakistani naval vessel collided with an Indian Navy vessel due to unacceptable and inappropriate conduct on the part of the Pakistan Navy. The Charge d’Affaires of the Pakistan High Commission was summoned and a protest was lodged in this regard. The incident occurred in international waters.

There was no significant damage in the collision. The action of the Pakistani naval vessel constitutes a violation of Article 10 of the 1991 India-Pakistan agreement, which requires advance notification regarding military exercises and troop movements.

The Charge d’Affaires has been instructed to convey India’s protest over the matter to the concerned authorities,’ said the ministry.
