Family gives royal welcome to baby girl born after 200 years

MUMBAI: A family gave a royal welcome to a baby girl born after a 200-year wait at Beed in Maharastra. The newborn and her mother were seated in a chariot and welcomed home by the family amid drums and dancing after being discharged from the hospital.

The Dahiphale family said that not a single girl has been born in the family in the past 200 years. The family is overjoyed at the arrival of the baby girl named Gargi. The birth of a girl is a great blessing. The family had been deeply saddened by the absence of a girl for so many years. The wait has finally come to an end,’ said Gargi’s grandfather, Limbaji Dahiphale, emotionally.

Gargi’s grandmother Surekha said the baby is Lakshmi Devi of the family. Usually, everyone wishes for a boy, but the joy of having a girl is completely different. Daughters tend to be closer to their fathers. We will raise our daughter like a flower,’ said Gargi’s father.

Meantime, social activist Anant Ingle came forward praising the family. He said narrow-minded attitudes toward the birth of girl children still exist in some sections of society, and praised the family’s celebrations as a powerful message against such mindsets.
