MUSCAT: Amid the escalation of tensions in the Middle East, a new ship attack has been reported off the coast of Oman. The ship was reportedly attacked near the port of Shinas. The Indian Embassy in Muscat has also confirmed that the ship was attacked. The Indian Embassy said it is monitoring the situation and is in touch with local authorities to gather information.

There are reports that the ship M T Jalveer was involved in the accident, but the Indian embassy has not confirmed it. A video has emerged of a crew member on board the ship informing port authorities that there was a fire in the engine room moments after the attack. The message says they are safe but urgent action has to be taken. There were 20 crew members in the ship. The embassy said it is closely monitoring the situation and are coordinating the evacuation of crew members with the help of the Royal Navy of Oman, which is expected to be completed soon.

The new ship attack comes after the US military attacked the tanker Seettebello in the Gulf of Oman yesterday, in which three Indian sailors were confirmed to have been killed.

The continuous attacks in the Gulf region have created great concern among the expatriates. Drone attacks on airports and closure of airspace are causing a heavy blow to the expatriate community, which includes Malayalees. The diversion and cancellation of several flights due to the possibility of conflict have created concern in the Gulf region, and attacks on ships crewed by Indians have become common.
