Asian Games: Double athletics medal for India, silver in mixed relay and bronze in women’s 10,000m

NAGOYA: India won two medals in athletics at the Aichi-Nagoya Asian Games on Thursday, with the mixed 4x400m relay team winning silver and Seema Kumari securing bronze in the women’s 10,000m.

The Indian team comprising Vishal Thennarasu, M. R. Poovamma, Vithya Ramraj and Malayali athlete Manu T. S. won the silver medal in the mixed 4x400m relay. India clocked 3:14.46 to finish behind Bahrain, which won gold with a Games-record time of 3:12.87.

Seema Kumari won bronze in the women’s 10,000m, finishing third with a time of 32:50.05. The medal ended India’s 16-year wait for a medal in the event at the Asian Games.

In wushu, Indian athlete Roshibina Devi won silver after losing to a Chinese opponent in the final. The Manipuri athlete won a medal at her third consecutive Asian Games. She had won bronze in 2018 and silver in 2022.

India also won bronze medals in rowing through the Satnam Singh-Salman Khan pair and in skeet shooting through the Anantjeet Singh Naruka-Parinaaz Dhaliwal pair.

India are currently 15th in the medal table with 16 medals- one gold, six silver and nine bronze. China lead the standings with 130 medals, including 80 golds.
