David Warner faces sentence after drink-driving guilty plea

SYDNEY: Former Australia opener David Warner has pleaded guilty to a drink-driving charge in a Sydney court and could face either a prison sentence or a fine. Warner was stopped by police during a routine vehicle inspection in Sydney. A blood alcohol test later confirmed he had been driving after consuming alcohol.

Appearing in court, Warner's lawyer, Bobby Hill, said the former cricketer accepted full responsibility for the incident, which occurred in April.
Hill told the court Warner had consumed three glasses of wine at a friend's apartment before deciding to drive himself home instead of taking a taxi, describing it as an "unwise and foolish decision."

Under Australian law, Warner could be sentenced to prison or fined up to A$2,200. The court is scheduled to deliver its sentence on the 18th of next month.
Warner captains Sydney Thunder in the Big Bash League and remains one of Australia's best-known cricketers, with a large fan following, particularly in India.
