KANNUR: CPM state secretary M V Govindan accused the BJP of using the Governor as a tool to undermine the Kerala Public Service Commission (PSC). He criticized the Governor for his recommendation to the President to dismiss the PSC Chairman and members appointed under Article 316 of the Constitution as completely undemocratic and unconstitutional.

According to Article 317 of the Constitution, if there is any misconduct or wrongdoing on the part of PSC members, it must be examined by the Supreme Court. He said the state Governor and the government have the right to make a recommendation to the President only in accordance with the direction of the Supreme Court.

Kerala PSC is at the forefront in India for providing the highest number of government jobs. Govindan pointed that the Governor's extraordinary move comes at a time when there are presently no remarks or cases by the Supreme Court against the Kerala PSC. He also alleged that the BJP is using the Governor as a tool in an attempt to destroy a constitutional institution that is functioning so excellently.

Chief Minister V D Satheesan took a stand favorable to the Governor in this matter. Govindan demanded that the chief minister and the UDF clarify whether they support this unconstitutional decision of the Governor. He added that if that is not the case and they are against the Governor's action, the chief minister should clarify that as well.
