KOLLAM: A young soldier has given seven people a new lease of life through organ donation after his death. Rahul Rajeev (30), a native of Kalluvathukkal in Kollam, became an example even in death by donating his organs.
Rahul had been serving in the Army in Himachal Pradesh for several years and had returned home recently. He was admitted to SP Medifort Hospital in Thiruvananthapuram last Wednesday.
Rahul’s brain death was confirmed yesterday while he was undergoing treatment in the intensive care unit. He had earlier registered as an organ donor after death. Despite the pain of losing him, his family decided to donate his organs and give others a chance at life.
His kidneys, liver, heart valves, skin and corneas were donated, helping patients in different hospitals.
The kidneys will be donated to patients undergoing treatment at Pushpagiri Medical College and Thiruvananthapuram Medical College. The liver will be given to a patient at KIMS Hospital, while the heart valves will be taken to Sree Chitra Tirunal Institute for Medical Sciences and Technology.
The skin will be donated to a patient undergoing treatment at Thiruvananthapuram Medical College Hospital. The corneas will be taken to the Thiruvananthapuram Eye Hospital.
